The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 86979 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for machining aluminum alloys and non-ferrous materials. With a 5/8 inch (0.6250 inch) mill diameter, a 2 inch length of cut, and a 40-degree high helix angle, this tool delivers efficient chip evacuation and a clean finish in soft, gummy materials that tend to build up on cutting edges. The Zplus PVD coating provides lubricity and wear resistance suited to non-ferrous applications. Three right-hand spiral flutes with variable pitch geometry reduce harmonic vibration during aggressive passes. This end mill is built for professional machinists running CNC mills and machining centers in production and job-shop environments.
This tool is intended for roughing and finishing operations in aluminum alloys and non-ferrous metals. The ball nose profile makes it well suited for 3D contouring, profiling, and finishing of curved surfaces and complex geometries. The straight cylindrical shank at 5/8 inch (0.6250 inch) diameter fits standard ER and end mill holders. With a 4 inch overall length and a 2 inch reach, it handles moderate-depth pockets and contoured surfaces without requiring extended-reach tooling. It is a single-end tool, meaning the cutting end is not reversible.
Designed for use in aluminum alloys and non-ferrous metals. Part of the HELICAL SOLUTIONS 3 Flute Ball 40 Helix Variable Pitch End Mills for Aluminum Alloys and Non-Ferrous Materials series. Fits standard straight-cylindrical shank tool holders accepting a 5/8 inch shank.
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tool-and-die professional. Seat the straight cylindrical shank fully into a clean, undamaged end mill holder or collet chuck and torque the retention mechanism to the holder manufacturer's specification. Confirm runout at the cutting tip does not exceed 0.0003 inch TIR before beginning a production cut. This tool does not support coolant-through delivery; use flood or mist coolant directed at the cutting zone for aluminum applications.
