The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 86960 is a single-end, solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in aluminum and non-ferrous materials. With a 0.125 inch mill diameter, 3 flutes, and a 40-degree right-hand helix, this tool delivers efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes in softer workpiece materials. The variable pitch (variable index) geometry reduces harmonic vibration during cuts, improving tool life and dimensional accuracy. At 2.5 inches overall length with a 1 inch length of cut, it suits a range of shallow-to-moderate-depth milling operations on CNC machining centers and manual mills.
This end mill is suited for production and job-shop environments where aluminum extrusions, plate stock, billet components, and other non-ferrous workpieces are machined regularly. The bright uncoated finish is appropriate for aluminum applications where coatings can cause built-up edge. The straight shank and fractional inch sizing make it compatible with standard ER collets, end mill holders, and shrink-fit tooling in 1/8 inch bore. Machinists, CNC programmers, and tool-crib technicians working in aerospace, automotive, and general manufacturing will find this tool a direct fit for finish and semi-finish milling passes.
Designed for use with standard 1/8 inch bore ER collets, end mill holders, and shrink-fit tooling. Primary workpiece material compatibility is aluminum and non-ferrous metals (material code N). Part of the HELICAL SOLUTIONS End Mills for Aluminum series: 3 Flute, Square, 40 degree Helix, Variable Pitch.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Torque collet nuts or end mill holder set screws according to the tooling manufacturer specifications for the holder type in use. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning production cuts, as excess runout on a small-diameter carbide tool accelerates chipping and premature failure.
