The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 83197 is a 4-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. It carries a 5/16-inch (0.3125-inch) mill diameter with a matching 5/16-inch straight shank and an overall length of 2.0 inches. The 1/2-inch length of cut and 35-degree helix angle support efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting in demanding ferrous materials. The Tplus coating adds wear resistance and thermal protection, extending tool life in production environments. A variable index geometry reduces harmonic vibration, contributing to a smoother finish and longer tool life in tough alloys. Installed by machinists and CNC programmers in job shop and production settings.
The 83197 is part of the HELICAL SOLUTIONS End Mills for Stainless and High Temp series, a 4-flute square variable-pitch line optimized for steels, stainless steels, and cast iron workpiece materials (material codes P, M, K). It is center-cutting, allowing plunge entry, and cuts in a right-hand direction with right-hand flute direction. The straight shank suits standard ER collets and end mill holders in vertical machining centers, knee mills, and CNC routers running ferrous stock. It is a single-end tool. Coolant-through and extended-reach configurations are not part of this model.
Rated for primary workpiece materials: Steel (P), Stainless Steel (M), and Cast Iron (K). Part of the HELICAL SOLUTIONS End Mills for Stainless and High Temp - 4 Flute - Square - Variable Pitch series. Fits standard 5/16-inch ER collets and end mill holders.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and free of runout before seating the shank. Torque the collet nut or set screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify correct spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut for the workpiece material before engaging the cut.
