The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 83104 is a 5-flute solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance roughing in stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, and hardened steels. It features a 0.03-inch corner radius, a 1/2-inch cutting diameter, and a 5/8-inch length of cut. The chipbreaker geometry and variable-pitch flute spacing work together to break up chips, reduce harmonics, and manage heat during aggressive material removal. Tplus PVD coating extends tool life in abrasive, work-hardening materials. This is a single-end, center-cutting tool with right-hand flute direction and right-hand cutting action. It is sized for use in high-precision toolholders and suited to CNC machining centers operated by skilled machinists or toolroom professionals.
The 83104 is built for applications where standard end mills fall short — specifically roughing passes in stainless steel grades, nickel-based and cobalt-based high-temperature alloys, and hardened steels up to demanding hardness ranges. Its stub-length classification and straight cylindrical shank make it stable in tight setups with minimal overhang. The variable pitch eliminates resonant chatter frequencies common in interrupted cuts and long-duration roughing programs. Secondary workpiece materials include carbon and alloy steels and cast iron, making this a versatile option across a machine shop's common job mix.
Designed for use with high-precision toolholders. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, and hardened steels (ISO material codes M, S, H). Secondary workpiece materials include steel and cast iron (ISO codes P, K). Part of the HELICAL SOLUTIONS HEV-C-5 series.
Installation is performed by a CNC machinist or toolroom operator. Seat the straight cylindrical shank fully in a high-precision toolholder and confirm runout does not exceed the 0.0005-inch TIR maximum before cutting. Verify spindle direction is set to right-hand before engaging the cut. Follow the tool manufacturer and machine builder guidelines for feeds, speeds, and coolant strategy when machining stainless or high-temp alloys — do not exceed the rated depth of cut for roughing passes.
