The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 82949 is a single-end square end mill engineered for demanding cutting applications in stainless steel, steel, and cast iron. Built from solid carbide and finished with a Tplus coating, this tool delivers consistent performance in high-temperature and work-hardening materials where lesser tooling fails prematurely. It runs a 5-flute, variable-index geometry in a right-hand cutting and right-hand helical flute configuration. The cutter diameter is 0.125 inches with a matching 0.125-inch straight shank, a 0.75-inch length of cut, and a 2.5-inch overall length. Centercutting capability allows plunge entry. This end mill is used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in CNC milling operations.
This end mill is intended for precision milling of stainless steel, carbon and alloy steel, and cast iron in both production and job-shop environments. The variable-index flute spacing reduces harmonic chatter, making it well suited for side milling, slotting, and finishing passes in challenging materials. The 0.75-inch length of cut provides adequate reach for shallow-to-medium depth pockets and profiles without sacrificing rigidity at this diameter. It is a good fit for shops running tight-tolerance stainless and high-temp alloy components on vertical machining centers and CNC mills.
Designed for use in CNC milling operations targeting steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. Part of the Helical Solutions End Mills for Stainless and High Temp 5-Flute Square Variable Pitch series.
Installation and tool changes should be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and the control in an e-stop or tool-change state. Use a properly sized collet or end mill holder matched to the 0.125-inch shank diameter to ensure concentricity and prevent tool pullout. Verify runout with a dial indicator before commencing a production cut, as runout is especially critical at this small diameter. Follow the tool manufacturer and machine builder guidelines for feeds, speeds, and depth-of-cut parameters when programming cuts in stainless steel or high-temp alloys.
