The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 82551 is a solid carbide, 5-flute corner radius end mill designed for demanding milling operations in steel, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. It carries a 3/8-inch mill diameter with a 0.1250-inch corner radius and an APLUS PVD coating applied to the carbide substrate. The HEV-5 series uses a variable index geometry and right-hand spiral flutes to reduce chatter and improve surface finish. At 3 inches overall length with a 1-1/4-inch length of cut, this tool is built for both roughing and finishing passes in a single setup. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in job shops, aerospace, and general manufacturing specify this tool for high-precision profiling and contouring work.
The 82551 is suited for milling ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces in vertical and horizontal machining centers. Its straight-cylindrical 3/8-inch shank seats in high-precision toolholders such as shrink-fit, hydraulic, or precision collet chucks. The centercutting design allows plunge entry where needed. Variable index pitch reduces harmonic vibration during aggressive cuts in steel and cast iron, making it applicable in both light finish passes and heavier material removal operations. It is a single-end tool with no chipbreaker, intended for standard-reach applications without extended-reach requirements.
Recommended for use with high-precision toolholders. Primary workpiece materials are steel and cast iron; secondary materials include stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Shank diameter tolerance is h6 for consistent fit in precision collet and shrink-fit systems.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer is in a safe state before loading the tool. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank to the full recommended gauge-line depth in a high-precision toolholder and verify TIR does not exceed 0.0005 inches before cutting. Confirm feed rate, spindle speed, and depth of cut settings match the workpiece material and operation type before initiating the program.
