The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 82550 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for high-performance material removal in ferrous and non-ferrous machining applications. Built on the HEV-5 platform, it features a 5-flute, variable-index geometry with a right-hand spiral flute and right-hand cutting direction. The 3/8-inch diameter cutting end carries a 0.1250-inch corner radius and is protected by a proprietary APLUS PVD coating that extends tool life in demanding cutting environments. The overall length is 3 inches with a 1-inch length of cut and a 3/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Center-cutting capability allows plunge entry. This tool is suited for roughing and finishing operations across a wide range of workpiece materials.
The 82550 is primarily rated for steel and cast iron and carries secondary application approval for stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium, as well as hard materials. The HEV-5 series variable-index design reduces chatter and harmonic vibration during aggressive cuts, making it well suited for high-speed machining centers running tight-tolerance production work. Pairing with high-precision toolholders is recommended to maintain the specified TIR maximum of 0.0005 inches and realize the full benefit of the close-tolerance shank (h6) and corner radius tolerances.
Designed for use with high-precision toolholders on CNC milling machines. The 3/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance is compatible with standard collet chucks and shrink-fit toolholders of the corresponding bore size.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Secure the shank fully within the toolholder to the manufacturer-recommended engagement depth before torquing the retention mechanism. Verify runout with a dial indicator before the first cut, targeting the specified TIR maximum. Never exceed the cutting parameters established for the workpiece material and coating type, and ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped before changing or measuring the tool.
