The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 82217 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in ferrous and difficult-to-machine workpiece materials. Built on the HEV-C-5 series platform, it features a 5-flute, single-end geometry with a 0.50 mm (0.0200 inch) corner radius that reduces edge chipping and extends tool life at sharp profile transitions. The 3/8 inch cutting diameter pairs with a 1-1/2 inch length of cut and a 3-1/2 inch overall length on a straight cylindrical 3/8 inch shank. An APLUS PVD coating provides thermal resistance and lubricity suited to steel and cast iron applications. Variable pitch fluting reduces harmonic vibration during aggressive cuts.
This end mill is suited for roughing operations in low-alloy steel, medium alloy steel, tool steel, and cast iron, with secondary capability in stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. It is a long-reach configuration intended for use in high-precision toolholders to maintain the tight runout tolerances required in mold, die, and aerospace component machining. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on vertical and horizontal machining centers will find the 5-flute layout effective for high-feed roughing passes where chip evacuation and surface control are both priorities.
Designed for use with high-precision toolholders on CNC machining centers. Primary workpiece materials are steel and cast iron (ISO material codes P and K); secondary workpiece materials include stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes M and S). Part of the HELICAL SOLUTIONS HEV-C-5 series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque and runout specifications. Verify maximum TIR does not exceed 0.0005 inch at setup before cutting. Ensure the spindle and toolholder are clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine guarding requirements when changing tooling on live spindles.
