The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 81679 is a solid carbide, 4-flute ball end mill designed for material removal in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. It carries a 1/2-inch mill diameter with a matching 1/2-inch straight-cylindrical shank, a 2-inch length of cut, and a 4-inch overall length. The APLUS PVD coating improves wear resistance and heat dissipation during high-speed cutting operations. Variable index geometry reduces harmonic chatter, making this tool suited for both roughing and finishing passes. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on ferrous metals will find this a reliable single-end tool for 3-axis and full-contour profiling operations.
This end mill is built for machining steel, tool steels, stainless steel, and cast iron in production and job-shop environments. The ball nose profile makes it well-suited for contouring, profiling, and 3D surface work where a flat-bottom geometry is not practical. The 2-inch reach length accommodates moderate-depth cavities and pockets without requiring an extended-reach variant. It is a standard-length tool compatible with conventional collet chucks, end mill holders, and hydraulic toolholders with a 1/2-inch bore.
Designed for use on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces per ISO material codes P, M, and K. Fits any 1/2-inch collet chuck, end mill holder, or hydraulic toolholder. Part of the HELICAL SOLUTIONS 4-Flute Ball Variable Pitch APLUS series for steels, tool steels, and cast iron.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or spindle lock is engaged before inserting or removing the end mill. Seat the shank to the full recommended grip length in the toolholder — typically a minimum of 2.5 times the shank diameter — to maintain runout within specification. Verify TIR at setup; maximum allowable TIR for this tool is 0.0005 inches.
