The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 81546 is a 3-flute solid carbide ball end mill designed for roughing and finishing operations in aluminum alloys and other non-ferrous materials. It carries a 1/2-inch cutting diameter with a 5/8-inch length of cut and runs a 40-degree high-helix geometry to promote efficient chip evacuation in gummy, low-iron alloys. The Zplus PVD coating adds surface hardness and lubricity to extend tool life in high-speed aluminum applications. The reduced neck and variable index flute spacing work together to reduce chatter and improve finish quality in deep-pocket and wall-milling scenarios. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in job shops or aerospace component manufacturing will find this tool sized and coated for high-throughput aluminum work.
This end mill is intended for non-ferrous metal cutting, with a primary focus on aluminum alloys. The reduced neck profile and 1-3/4-inch reach length make it well suited for deep-pocket milling and slotting where a standard-length tool would interfere with the part or fixture. The single-end, right-hand cutting and flute direction configuration is compatible with conventional vertical and horizontal CNC machining centers. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard ER or milling chuck toolholders sized for 1/2-inch shank diameters.
Designed for use in aluminum alloys and non-ferrous materials (Primary Workpiece Material Code: N). Accepts 1/2-inch bore ER collet chucks, milling chucks, and hydraulic toolholders with straight-cylindrical shank compatibility.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Before inserting the tool, clean the toolholder bore and shank with a lint-free cloth to remove any chips, oil buildup, or burrs that could affect runout. Confirm TIR does not exceed 0.0003 inches after clamping, as specified for this tool. Do not use this end mill on ferrous materials; the Zplus coating and geometry are optimized for non-ferrous cutting and performance or tool life will be compromised on steel or cast iron.
