The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 81538 is a 3-flute solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-performance milling of aluminum alloys and non-ferrous materials. It features a 1/4 inch mill diameter, a 3/8 inch length of cut, and a 3-inch overall length with a reduced neck profile. The Zplus PVD coating provides lubricity and wear resistance suited to non-ferrous applications. A variable index flute geometry reduces harmonic vibration during aggressive cuts, making this tool effective for both roughing and finishing passes in a single setup. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in job shop or production environments are the primary users.
This end mill is intended for milling aluminum alloys and non-ferrous metals in CNC machining centers and manual mills where a ball nose profile is required for contoured or 3D surface work. The reduced neck design and 1.625 inch reach length allow access to deeper features and pockets without sacrificing rigidity. The stub-length classification and straight cylindrical shank suit standard collet and end mill holders. It is a single-end tool with right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills with standard 1/4 inch collet or end mill holders. Optimized for aluminum alloys and non-ferrous metals per the Series 3 Flute, Ball - 40 Helix, Variable Pitch, Reduced Neck, End Mills for Aluminum Alloys and Non-Ferrous Materials designation.
Installation is performed by machinists using a standard collet chuck or end mill holder sized to the 1/4 inch straight cylindrical shank. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and free of chips before seating the tool. Verify runout against the stated maximum TIR before beginning a cut. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when setting tool offsets and depth of cut.
