The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 81466 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for roughing and finishing operations in aluminum alloys and non-ferrous materials. It features a 3/8 inch diameter, a 1-1/4 inch length of cut, and a 3-inch overall length with a straight cylindrical 3/8 inch shank. The 40-degree high helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation in gummy, soft metals, while the Zplus PVD coating improves wear resistance and surface finish. Three flutes with variable pitch reduce harmonic vibration during aggressive cuts. This tool is built for CNC machining centers and milling machines operated by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working with non-ferrous stock.
The 81466 is suited for aluminum alloy milling, brass, copper, and other non-ferrous workpiece materials where chip packing and built-up edge are common challenges. Its standard-length geometry fits typical toolholding setups without requiring extended-reach adapters. The single-end, right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration make it compatible with standard CNC spindle rotation. It handles both roughing passes and finish contour work on the same tool path, reducing tool changes in production environments.
Designed for use with aluminum alloys and non-ferrous materials as specified in the HELICAL SOLUTIONS 3 Flute Ball 40 Helix Variable Pitch End Mills for Aluminum Alloys and Non-Ferrous Materials series. Fits standard 3/8 inch straight-bore toolholders including collet chucks and shrink-fit holders compatible with a 3/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with CNC toolholding procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before inserting or removing the tool. Seat the shank to the full recommended gauge-line depth in the toolholder and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout does not exceed the rated TIR maximum of 0.0003 inches before beginning a cut.
