The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 81458 is a solid carbide, three-flute ball end mill designed for high-performance milling of aluminum alloys and non-ferrous materials. With a 0.2500-inch cutting diameter, a 0.5000-inch length of cut, and a 40-degree high-helix angle, this tool is built for efficient chip evacuation and reduced heat buildup in gummy, soft metals. The Zplus PVD coating provides surface hardness and lubricity to extend tool life in aluminum and other non-ferrous applications. It is a single-end tool with a right-hand cutting direction and right-hand flute direction, suited for finishing and roughing passes in the same setup.
This end mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills where the workpiece material is aluminum, copper, brass, or similar non-ferrous metals. The 0.2500-inch straight-cylindrical shank pairs with standard collets and end mill holders. The 2.0000-inch overall length and standard-length classification make it a practical choice for general-purpose pocketing, profiling, contouring, and three-dimensional surfacing operations where a ball nose profile is required. It is sized for production shops and job shops running aluminum components.

Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician using a calibrated collet, shrink-fit holder, or end mill holder rated for the 0.2500-inch shank diameter. Confirm spindle runout and holder condition before seating the tool, as excess TIR will degrade surface finish and reduce tool life. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Follow the tool manufacturer and machine builder guidelines for speeds, feeds, and depth-of-cut parameters appropriate to the workpiece material and machine rigidity.
