The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 81400 is a 3-flute solid carbide square end mill engineered for aluminum milling applications. It features a 1/4 inch cutting diameter, a 1/2 inch length of cut, and a 40-degree helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation in non-ferrous materials. The variable index flute spacing reduces harmonic chatter during high-speed passes, improving surface finish and tool life. A Zplus coating provides added lubricity and heat resistance at the cutting edge. At 2 inches overall length with a straight cylindrical 1/4 inch shank, this tool fits standard collet chucks and end mill holders. It is centercutting and right-hand cutting, making it suitable for plunge, slot, and profile operations in aluminum and similar soft alloys.
This end mill is intended for machining aluminum and other non-ferrous materials in CNC milling applications, both production and prototype environments. The 3-flute geometry with 40-degree helix and variable index pitch is optimized for high metal removal rates in aluminum, where chip packing and built-up edge are common concerns. Machinists and tooling technicians in job shops, aerospace component shops, and manufacturing facilities routinely spec this series for finishing and semi-finishing passes on aluminum plate, billet, and extrusion stock.
Part of the Helical Solutions End Mills for Aluminum 3 Flute Square 40 Degree Helix Variable Pitch series. Fits standard 1/4 inch collet chucks, ER collets, and end mill holders accepting a straight cylindrical shank.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician using an appropriate collet chuck or end mill holder torqued to the machine manufacturer specifications. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the tool is secured before spindle engagement. Confirm spindle rotation direction matches the right-hand cutting geometry before running the program. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer recommended speeds and feeds for the target material and depth of cut.
