The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 81397 is a 3-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling of aluminum and non-ferrous materials. With a 0.1250-inch mill diameter, a 0.7500-inch length of cut, and a 40-degree helix angle, this tool delivers efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes in soft, gummy metals. The variable pitch flute spacing reduces harmonic vibration during the cut, helping maintain dimensional accuracy at higher feed rates. It is a single-end, right-hand cutting tool with a straight shank, suited for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills where precision and tool life are priorities.
This end mill is engineered for aluminum alloys, copper, brass, and other non-ferrous materials in both production and job-shop environments. The 0.1250-inch shank diameter matches the mill diameter, making it compatible with standard collets and end mill holders sized for 1/8-inch tooling. Its 2.5000-inch overall length provides adequate reach for pocket milling and slotting operations without sacrificing rigidity at this diameter. Machinists in aerospace, automotive, and general fabrication shops commonly use this tool for finishing passes and light roughing in aluminum components.
Designed for use in 1/8-inch collets and end mill holders. Primary workpiece materials are aluminum and non-ferrous metals (material code N). Part of the HELICAL SOLUTIONS End Mills for Aluminum 3 Flute Square 40 Degree Helix Variable Pitch series.
Install in a clean, properly sized collet or end mill holder and torque to the tool holder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout at the cutting edge before beginning the operation, as runout at small diameters accelerates wear and increases breakage risk. At 0.1250-inch diameter, feeds and speeds must be set conservatively per the machine and material combination to avoid tool deflection. Always power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling.
