The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 81394 is a single-end, solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in aluminum and non-ferrous materials. It features a 1/2 inch cutting diameter, a 5/8 inch length of cut, and a 35-degree right-hand helical flute geometry across three flutes. The reduced neck design extends usable reach to 2.75 inches, allowing access to deeper pockets and stepped features without sacrificing rigidity. A ZrN (Zplus) coating reduces built-up edge and promotes clean chip evacuation in aluminum, minimizing the need for frequent tool changes. Centercutting capability supports plunge and ramping entry strategies.
This end mill is built for machining aluminum alloys and other non-ferrous materials in production and job-shop environments. The reduced neck and extended reach configuration makes it well suited for deep pocket milling, cavity work, and finishing passes where a standard-length tool cannot reach. The straight 1/2 inch shank fits standard ER and side-lock toolholders found on vertical machining centers and CNC routers. Installation is performed by a machinist using a compatible 1/2 inch ER collet chuck, hydraulic, or milling chuck toolholder. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the toolholder is torqued to the machine spindle manufacturer specification before running. Verify runout with a dial indicator before engaging the workpiece, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on carbide tooling. Always confirm spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and depth of cut before beginning a cut cycle.
