The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 50242 is a 5-flute, solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in steel and other ferrous materials. It features a 1/2 inch cutting diameter, a 5/8 inch length of cut, and a 4 inch overall length. The APLUS coating provides enhanced lubricity and wear resistance at elevated cutting temperatures. A variable index flute spacing reduces harmonic vibration and chatter, extending tool life and improving surface finish. The reduced neck geometry allows extended reach into deep pockets and contoured features without sacrificing rigidity. This tool is intended for use by machinists and CNC operators working in production and job-shop environments.
This end mill belongs to the Helical Solutions End Mills for Steels series and is built specifically for slotting, profiling, and pocketing operations in steel alloys. The 5-flute configuration increases feed rates compared to standard 4-flute tools while maintaining chip evacuation efficiency. The 2.25 inch reach length and reduced neck make it well suited for deep-cavity work where standard-length tools cannot reach. Right-hand cutting and right-hand helical flutes are standard for conventional CNC milling setups. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard ER and end mill holders.
Part of the Helical Solutions End Mills for Steels - 5 Flute - Square - Variable Pitch - Reduced Neck series. Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use tooling for CNC machining centers using 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank end mill holders or collet chucks.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine placed in an e-stop or lockout state. Secure the straight cylindrical shank to the recommended torque specification of the holder manufacturer using a properly calibrated torque wrench. Inspect the shank and collet bore for chips or contamination before seating the tool. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning production cuts.
