Product Description

The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 49346 is a 3-flute solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-efficiency milling of aluminum alloys and other non-ferrous materials. It carries a 5/8 inch cutting diameter, a 1-1/4 inch length of cut, and a 40-degree high-helix geometry that promotes chip evacuation and reduces heat buildup in gummy non-ferrous materials. The Zplus PVD coating adds surface hardness and lubricity suited to aluminum applications. At 3-1/2 inches overall length with a straight cylindrical 5/8 inch shank, it seats in standard ER or shrink-fit toolholders. Machinists and CNC programmers specify this tool for both roughing and finishing passes in a single setup.

This end mill is built for CNC machining centers running aluminum alloys, copper, brass, and similar non-ferrous workpiece materials. The single-end, right-hand cut configuration suits conventional vertical and horizontal milling applications. The 40-degree high-helix spiral flute design reduces axial cutting forces and improves surface finish on soft, stringy alloys. Variable pitch geometry helps dampen chatter at aggressive feed rates, making it a practical choice for production shops running high spindle speeds in aluminum aerospace, automotive, or general fabrication work.

Key Features

  • 3-flute solid carbide construction for strength and wear resistance in non-ferrous milling
  • 40-degree high-helix angle promotes chip evacuation and reduces built-up edge in aluminum
  • Zplus PVD coating provides hardness and lubricity optimized for aluminum and non-ferrous alloys
  • Variable pitch flute spacing reduces chatter at high feed rates
  • Ball nose geometry with 0.3125 inch nose radius enables contoured and 3D surface machining
  • Roughing and finishing capability in a single tool reduces setup changes

Compatibility

Designed for use with aluminum alloys and non-ferrous metals in standard CNC milling applications requiring a 5/8 inch straight cylindrical shank and single-end ball geometry.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool change is completed with the machine in a safe state before seating or removing the end mill. Use a torque-rated collet nut wrench when securing in ER-style toolholders to achieve proper runout within the specified TIR maximum of 0.0003 inch. Confirm shank seating depth against holder specifications before running at operating spindle speeds.
