The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 49211 is a 3-flute solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-performance milling of aluminum alloys and non-ferrous materials. It features a 3/8-inch cutting diameter, a 1-inch length of cut, and a 40-degree high-helix geometry that promotes aggressive chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes in softer, gummy materials. The Zplus PVD coating adds lubricity and wear resistance without buildup on the cutting edge. With a straight cylindrical shank and single-end configuration, this tool seats securely in standard toolholding and is sized for both roughing and finishing passes in one setup. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in job shops or production environments are the primary users.
This end mill is built specifically for aluminum alloys and non-ferrous metals, making it a direct fit for aerospace, automotive, and general machining applications where material adhesion and chip packing are concerns. The 3-flute design balances flute count and chip clearance, giving machinists the core removal rate of a 3-flute without the chip recutting risk associated with tighter-fluted tools. The 2.5-inch overall length and standard length classification make it compatible with typical knee mill, VMC, and HMC setups where reach requirements are moderate.
Designed for milling aluminum alloys and non-ferrous metals; listed under the 3 Flute, Ball - 40 Helix, Variable Pitch, End Mills for Aluminum Alloys and Non-Ferrous Materials series by HELICAL SOLUTIONS.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in an e-stop or locked-out state before loading or changing tooling. Use a properly sized collet or toolholder rated for a 3/8-inch straight cylindrical shank, and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Confirm runout at the cutting tip before running the first part, particularly for finish-pass operations where the 0.0003-inch TIR maximum is critical.
