The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 48621 is a 3-flute solid carbide square end mill engineered for aluminum milling applications. It features a 3/4-inch cutting diameter, a 1-5/8-inch length of cut, and a 40-degree helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduces heat buildup in non-ferrous materials. The variable pitch (variable index) flute geometry helps dampen vibration during aggressive cuts, improving surface finish and extending tool life. A Zplus coating adds lubricity and wear resistance suited to aluminum, copper, and other gummy non-ferrous alloys. Single-end design. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction. Installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This end mill is intended for high-speed aluminum milling in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills where chip load, feed rate, and spindle speed are dialed in for non-ferrous work. The 40-degree helix is optimized to pull chips up and away from the cut, reducing re-cutting and built-up edge common in aluminum. The 3/4-inch straight cylindrical shank fits standard ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and hydraulic toolholders of the same bore size. The 4-inch overall length provides adequate reach for the majority of standard workpiece setups without sacrificing rigidity.
Designed for use in the HELICAL SOLUTIONS End Mills for Aluminum series — 3 Flute, Square, 40-degree Helix, Variable Pitch. Fits any toolholder with a 3/4-inch bore. Suited to aluminum and other non-ferrous materials in CNC and conventional milling setups.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in an energy-isolated state before changing tooling. Seat the straight cylindrical shank fully into the toolholder bore and torque the retention mechanism to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping — excessive runout accelerates edge wear and reduces surface finish quality.
