The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 48466 is a solid carbide, single-end corner radius end mill engineered for high-performance material removal in aluminum and non-ferrous metals. It carries a 1/2 inch mill diameter, a 2 inch length of cut, and a 0.03 inch corner radius that reduces stress concentration at the cutting edge during both roughing and finishing passes. The Zplus PVD coating lowers friction and resists built-up edge when cutting aluminum. Three helical flutes with variable pitch minimize chatter and harmonics at higher spindle speeds. This tool is centercutting, allowing direct plunge entry without a pilot hole.
This end mill is part of the H40ALV-3 series, designed specifically for aluminum and non-ferrous machining applications. The high helix geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation, which is critical in deep-pocket and full-slot cuts in aluminum. It is equally capable on secondary materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high temperature alloys, and hard materials. Paired with a high-precision toolholder to meet the 0.0003 inch TIR maximum specification, this tool performs reliably in production environments and job-shop applications. A licensed machinist or CNC operator typically runs this tool in a vertical or horizontal machining center.
Part of the HELICAL SOLUTIONS H40ALV-3 series. Primary workpiece material is aluminum and non-ferrous metal. Secondary compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high temperature alloys, and hard materials. Requires a high-precision toolholder to maintain the specified 0.0003 inch TIR maximum.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a locked-out, zero-energy state. Seat the straight cylindrical shank fully into a high-precision toolholder and torque to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout does not exceed the 0.0003 inch TIR maximum before running at speed. Do not exceed the tool's rated depth of cut or use in an incompatible toolholder, as either condition can cause premature edge failure or tool breakage.
