The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 48270 is a 3-flute solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in both roughing and finishing operations. It features a 3/8-inch diameter, a 1-inch length of cut, and a 0.0300-inch corner radius, making it well suited for creating smooth, radiused edges on inside corners while maintaining tight tolerances. The variable pitch design helps reduce chatter and harmonic vibration during cutting. At 2.5 inches overall length with a matching 3/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank, this tool fits standard collet and high-precision toolholding systems. It runs right-hand cut with right-hand flute direction and a high helix angle of 40 degrees.
This end mill is primarily optimized for non-ferrous metals and aluminum, with secondary capability in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hard materials. The bright uncoated finish makes it a practical choice for aluminum applications where coatings can cause built-up edge. It is a single-end, center-cutting tool, allowing plunge entry as needed. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops, aerospace, and general manufacturing will find it applicable across a range of precision milling setups where corner integrity and surface finish matter.
Part of the H40ALV-3 series, designed for use with high-precision toolholders. Mill diameter and shank diameter both carry an h6 tolerance class for consistent fit in precision collets and shrink-fit holders.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists following shop safety protocols with the spindle fully stopped and machine in a locked-out state. Seat the shank fully and evenly in a high-precision toolholder to stay within the 0.0003-inch maximum TIR spec. Inspect the corner radius and cutting edges for chips or wear before each use, as carbide tools can fail suddenly if run with edge damage. Follow machine manufacturer guidelines for feed rates and speeds appropriate to the workpiece material and depth of cut.
