The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 47256 is a 3-flute solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-performance milling of aluminum alloys and non-ferrous materials. It carries a 1/2 inch cutting diameter, a 5/8 inch length of cut, and a 5 inch overall length. The 40-degree high helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation, reducing heat buildup and improving surface finish in non-ferrous applications. A Zplus PVD coating adds lubricity and wear resistance without the thermal load of CVD alternatives. The variable pitch (variable index) geometry disrupts harmonic chatter, making this mill well-suited for high-speed machining and aggressive finishing passes. Licensed machinists and CNC tool room technicians are the primary installers and operators of this tool.
This end mill is engineered specifically for aluminum alloys and non-ferrous metals in both roughing and finishing operations. The reduced neck design provides extended reach of 3.375 inches, allowing access to deeper pockets and contoured features without requiring a longer overall tool. The 0.475 inch neck diameter behind the cutting zone maintains rigidity while clearing walls in tight geometries. It is a single-end, right-hand cut, right-hand flute configuration with a straight-cylindrical shank held to h6 tolerance. Typical applications include aerospace aluminum components, mold bases in non-ferrous alloys, and general CNC machining center work requiring both reach and finish quality.

Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with CNC tooling and safe cutting practices. Power down and lock out the spindle before loading or changing the tool. Seat the shank fully in a collet or end mill holder rated for the shank diameter to maintain runout within the specified TIR. Verify spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut against the manufacturer cutting data for the specific workpiece alloy before beginning a cut.
