The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 47255 is a 3-flute solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-efficiency machining of aluminum alloys and other non-ferrous materials. It features a 1/2-inch cutting diameter, a 5/8-inch length of cut, and a 40-degree high helix angle that promotes fast chip evacuation and reduces heat buildup in the cut zone. The variable pitch flute index minimizes chatter and vibration during aggressive passes. A reduced neck profile with a 0.475-inch neck diameter and 3.37-inch reach length makes this tool well-suited for deep-pocket and extended-reach operations. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers in production and job-shop environments rely on this geometry for both roughing and finishing in a single setup.
This end mill is intended for non-ferrous metal applications, with aluminum alloys as the primary workpiece material. The uncoated bright finish is appropriate for aluminum where coatings can cause material adhesion. The single-end, straight-cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance fits standard 1/2-inch tool holders. The 5-inch overall length combined with the reduced neck allows access into deep features without sacrificing rigidity at the shank. This tool is suited for vertical machining centers and high-speed CNC routers running aluminum structural components, mold cavities, and aerospace-profile parts.
Designed for use in 1/2-inch tool holders on CNC vertical machining centers and high-speed routers. Intended for aluminum alloys and non-ferrous metals per the Series 3 Flute, Ball - 40 Helix, Variable Pitch, Reduced Neck, End Mills for Aluminum Alloys and Non-Ferrous Materials product family.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or spindle lock is engaged before loading the tool. Use a calibrated tool-holder torque procedure per the tool-holder manufacturer specification and confirm runout against the 0.0003-inch maximum TIR rating before cutting. Coolant-through is not supported on this tool; apply flood or mist coolant externally as appropriate for the workpiece material.
