The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 45423 is a 5-flute, solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in steel, cast iron, and secondary materials including stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. It carries a 1-inch mill diameter with a 0.09-inch corner radius and a 2-inch length of cut. The tool features a variable-pitch (variable index) flute geometry that reduces harmonic vibration during aggressive cuts. An Aplus PVD coating provides thermal resistance and wear protection suited for both roughing and finishing operations. The 4.5-inch overall length and 1-inch straight-cylindrical shank make it compatible with high-precision toolholders. Licensed HVAC techs aside, this tool is specified by CNC machinists and tooling engineers in production and job-shop environments.
The 45423 belongs to the Helical Solutions HEV-5 series, optimized for steel and cast iron as primary workpiece materials. Its centercutting capability allows plunge entry, giving machinists flexibility for slot milling, pocket milling, and profiling operations without requiring a pre-drilled entry point. The right-hand flute direction and right-hand cutting direction follow standard CNC milling conventions. It is suited for use in horizontal and vertical machining centers where high precision toolholders such as shrink-fit or hydraulic chucks are employed. The combination of variable pitch and Aplus coating makes this end mill a practical choice for applications requiring both material removal rate and finished surface quality.

Install in a high-precision toolholder and verify runout does not exceed the maximum TIR of 0.0005 inches before initiating a cut. Confirm shank seating depth meets toolholder manufacturer guidelines prior to clamping. Follow machine tool manufacturer recommendations for speed and feed parameters based on workpiece material. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use and do not continue cutting with a damaged tool.
