The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 44287 is a 5-flute, solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It carries an APLUS coating, a titanium-based PVD finish that reduces friction and extends tool life in demanding cutting conditions. The 1/2-inch diameter paired with a 1-1/4-inch length of cut gives machinists a versatile reach for slotting, profiling, and finishing passes. Variable index flute spacing reduces harmonic chatter at higher feed rates, making this tool well suited for aggressive material removal without sacrificing surface finish. Solid carbide construction delivers the rigidity needed to hold tight tolerances in production environments.
This end mill fits standard 1/2-inch tool holders and is used in vertical machining centers, CNC mills, and manual knee mills equipped for carbide tooling. It is a single-end, right-hand cut tool with a right-hand helical flute pattern. Typical applications include side milling, peripheral finishing, and full-slot operations in steel, stainless, aluminum, and cast iron. Machinists in job shops, production facilities, and toolrooms commonly specify this geometry for general-purpose work where a balance of tool life and cutting speed is required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit solid carbide end mill for use in any 1/2-inch collet or end mill holder accepting a straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in an e-stop or lockout state before changing tooling. Seat the shank to the recommended minimum engagement depth for your holder type and torque the collet nut or set screw per the tool holder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or coating damage before mounting, and confirm runout with a dial indicator after clamping.
