The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 44017 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for machining steel and other ferrous materials in demanding production environments. It features a 1/8-inch diameter cutting face with five flutes and a variable index geometry that distributes cutting forces unevenly around the tool, reducing harmonic vibration and chatter at the spindle. The APLUS coating improves surface hardness and heat resistance, extending tool life in high-speed steel milling applications. The helical, right-hand flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation in both conventional and climb milling passes. Machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, tool rooms, and production cells rely on this end mill for tight-tolerance slot, profile, and contour work in steel.
This end mill is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in low-alloy, high-alloy, and carbon steels. Its 1/4-inch length of cut and compact 1-1/2-inch overall length make it appropriate for short-reach applications where rigidity is critical. The straight-cylindrical, 1/8-inch diameter shank fits standard collets and end mill holders used on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. Center-cutting geometry allows plunge entry, giving operators flexibility in toolpath strategy without requiring a pre-drilled start hole.
Designed for use in the HELICAL SOLUTIONS End Mills for Steels - 5 Flute - Square - Variable Pitch series. Fits standard 1/8-inch collets and end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a safe, locked-out state. Ensure the collet or tool holder is clean and free of chips before seating the shank to achieve proper runout. Consult the machine tool manufacturer and cutting tool data sheets for appropriate feed rates, spindle speeds, and depth-of-cut parameters for the target material. Do not exceed the tool's rated length of cut when programming axial depth passes.
