The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 34317 is a 5-flute, solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in steel, cast iron, and a range of secondary materials including stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. It carries a 5/8 inch diameter with a 0.0300 inch corner radius and is finished with an APLUS PVD coating for extended tool life and heat resistance. This single-end, centercutting tool belongs to the HEV-5 series and is built for both roughing and finishing operations. It is suited for machinists and toolroom professionals running CNC vertical or horizontal machining centers demanding tight tolerances and consistent edge performance.
This end mill fits production and job shop environments where steel and cast iron are the primary workpiece materials. Its variable pitch, right-hand spiral flutes reduce harmonic chatter during deep cuts, making it effective in both slotting and peripheral milling applications. The stub length classification and straight cylindrical shank make it compatible with high-precision toolholders, collet chucks, and end mill holders used in precision CNC setups. Secondary material suitability extends to stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium, broadening its utility across mixed-material production runs.
Designed for use with high-precision toolholders. Primary workpiece materials are steel and cast iron (ISO material codes P and K). Secondary materials include stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials (ISO codes M, N, S, and H). Part of the HELICAL SOLUTIONS HEV-5 series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolsetting technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or spindle is locked out before changing tooling. Seat the straight cylindrical shank fully into the toolholder to the recommended gauge length and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout at the cutting edge with a dial indicator before initiating a cut, particularly in tight-tolerance applications.
