The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 31742 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for demanding metal removal in steel and cast iron applications. It features a 1-inch mill diameter, a 3-inch length of cut, and a 0.0300-inch corner radius that reduces stress concentrations at part edges and extends tool life in roughing and finishing passes. The APLUS PVD coating improves wear resistance and performance in ferrous materials. The variable-index pitch geometry minimizes chatter and vibration during high-feed milling. This tool is installed and run by machinists and CNC programmers working in job shops, die and mold operations, and production machining environments.
The 31742 is suited for roughing and finishing operations in low-alloy steel, medium alloy steel, tool steel, and cast iron. Its single-end, straight-cylindrical shank seats in high-precision toolholders for minimal runout. The HSV-4 series design supports aggressive material removal rates while maintaining surface finish quality, making it a practical choice for production runs and prototype work on vertical and horizontal machining centers where rigidity and accuracy are required.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank fully into a high-precision toolholder and verify TIR before cutting. Power down and lock out the spindle before tool changes. Confirm correct spindle direction and cutting parameters match the workpiece material before engaging the cut.
