The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 05487 is a 5-flute solid carbide square end mill engineered for finish milling operations in steel and ferrous alloys. It measures 0.5 inches in diameter with a 1.25-inch length of cut and a 3-inch overall length. The tool carries an APLUS coating, a titanium-based PVD finish optimized for extended tool life and reduced heat buildup in steel-cutting applications. The straight cylindrical shank is 0.5 inches in diameter, compatible with standard ER and side-lock toolholders. This is a single-end, right-hand cutting, right-hand helix design suited for conventional and climb milling passes on CNC machining centers.
This end mill is designed for finishing passes on carbon steel, alloy steel, tool steel, and similar ferrous materials. The 5-flute geometry increases chip load per tooth at higher feed rates compared to 4-flute designs, making it appropriate for high-efficiency finishing where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the primary goals. Typical applications include profiling, contouring, and shallow slotting on vertical and horizontal CNC machining centers in job shop and production environments. It is sized for 1/2-inch collet or toolholder bores.
Part of the Helical Solutions End Mills for Steels 5-Flute Square Finisher series. Designed for use in 1/2-inch bore toolholders on CNC machining centers running ferrous steel workpiece materials.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or spindle is in a safe, locked state before loading or unloading the tool. Seat the shank to the minimum recommended engagement depth in the toolholder, typically no less than 3 times the shank diameter, and torque collet nuts or set screws per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning production cuts.
