The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 01482 is a 3-flute solid carbide square end mill engineered for aluminum and non-ferrous material removal. The tool runs a 0.5-inch cutting diameter with a 1.625-inch length of cut and a 35-degree helix angle, a geometry specifically suited to aluminum's chip evacuation demands. The Zplus coating reduces built-up edge and improves lubricity at the cutting interface. At 4 inches overall length with a 0.5-inch straight-cylindrical shank, the 01482 fits standard ER collet chucks and side-lock holders commonly used on vertical machining centers and CNC routers. This is a single-end, centercutting tool, so it supports plunge entry as well as peripheral and slot milling operations.
The 01482 is positioned for production and job-shop environments where aluminum and light alloys are primary workpiece materials. The 3-flute configuration balances chip clearance with rigidity, making it effective for high-speed finishing passes and moderate-depth roughing in wrought aluminum alloys. The right-hand cut, right-hand helical flute design is the standard orientation for conventional CNC setups. Machinists and CNC operators working in aerospace, automotive, and general fabrication shops will find this geometry appropriate for both floor-standing machining centers and compact 3-axis routers.
Part of the HELICAL SOLUTIONS End Mills for Aluminum - 3 Flute - Square - 35 Degree Helix series. Designed for use in 0.5-inch bore ER collet chucks, milling chucks, or side-lock holders on CNC machining centers and routers.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the controller is in an E-stop or locked-out state before loading or unloading the tool. Clean the shank and collet bore of chips and coolant residue before seating to prevent runout. Do not exceed the toolholder manufacturer's recommended torque specification for the collet nut, and verify tool projection and runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production run.
