The HELI-COIL R1084-3.5 is a free running threaded insert designed to create or restore precision metric threads in parent materials that are stripped, damaged, or insufficiently strong for the application. Manufactured from stainless steel and conforming to metric coarse thread standards, this insert measures M3.5 x 0.6 with an overall length of 4.5 mm. The tanged design facilitates installation with a standard Heli-Coil installation tool, allowing the installer to drive the insert into a pre-tapped hole and snap off the tang after seating. Each package contains 12 inserts. This type of insert is routinely installed by mechanics, millwrights, and maintenance technicians across industrial, automotive, and HVAC equipment applications.
Free running inserts are used wherever a permanent, wear-resistant internal thread is needed in materials such as aluminum, cast iron, or thermoplastics. The M3.5 x 0.6 metric coarse thread size suits small fastener applications found in light machinery, control enclosures, motor housings, and electronic equipment chassis. Tanged inserts are appropriate for through-hole and blind-hole installations when a standard installation driver is available. The stainless steel construction provides corrosion resistance suitable for environments exposed to moisture or mild chemicals.
Designed as an OEM-style thread repair and insert solution for parent materials requiring M3.5 x 0.6 metric coarse threaded holes, including aluminum, cast iron, and similar base materials common in light industrial and mechanical assemblies.
Installation requires drilling the parent material to the specified Heli-Coil tap drill size, tapping with the corresponding Heli-Coil tap, and driving the insert using the correct installation tool for the M3.5 thread series. Power down or de-energize any equipment before beginning thread repair work. After the insert is fully seated, snap off the installation tang using a tang break-off tool or punch. Follow applicable manufacturer guidelines and workplace safety procedures throughout the repair process.
