The HELI-COIL AT1185-2C328 is a free running helical wire thread insert designed to install and restore 8-32 UNC internal threads in parent materials that are stripped, damaged, or originally too soft to hold a reliable fastener. Made from 304 stainless steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this insert delivers corrosion-resistant thread reinforcement in a compact 0.328-inch overall length. The tangless design eliminates the installation tang removal step, reducing assembly time and preventing loose tang debris inside closed assemblies. Licensed trades and precision assembly technicians use this insert in maintenance, repair, and original equipment manufacturing work.
This insert is suited for applications requiring 2D thread engagement in materials such as aluminum, magnesium, cast iron, plastics, and other substrates where native thread strength is insufficient. The 8-32 UNC thread size is common in light mechanical assemblies, electrical enclosures, control panels, and HVAC equipment chassis. At 0.328 inches in length, it fits shallow boss depths typical in sheet metal and cast components. It is sold individually, though the minimum order quantity for this part is 100 pieces, making it appropriate for production runs, fleet maintenance kits, and field service stocking programs.
Designed for use in any parent material tapped to accept an 8-32 UNC HELI-COIL style free running insert, including aluminum, magnesium, cast iron, thermoplastics, and similar substrates requiring thread reinforcement or repair at a 2D engagement depth.
Installation requires an 8-32 HELI-COIL compatible tap and the appropriate tangless insert tool for the insert outside diameter. Ensure the parent material is securely fixtured and the tapped hole is clean and free of debris before driving the insert. Power down or de-energize any equipment before performing thread repair on in-service assemblies. Follow the insert manufacturer's installation tooling specifications to avoid cross-threading or underdriving the coil.
