The HELI-COIL A3585-6CNPF375 is a tangless, screw-locking helical wire insert designed to provide a durable, vibration-resistant threaded repair or reinforcement in parent material. Manufactured from Grade 304 stainless steel with a primer-free finish, it accepts a 3/8-16 UNC male fastener and installs into a pre-tapped hole using a standard tangless installation tool. The insert measures 0.375 inches overall length (1D length-to-diameter ratio), with a minimum outside diameter of 0.452 inches and a maximum outside diameter of 0.472 inches. Maximum locking torque is 80 inch-pounds, and minimum breakaway torque is 12 inch-pounds, providing reliable prevailing-torque locking without a separate locking element.
This insert is suited for applications in manufacturing, MRO, aerospace, automotive, and industrial equipment where a screw-locking thread insert is needed in metallic or high-strength parent materials. The tangless design eliminates the tang-removal step required with traditional helical inserts, making it practical in blind-hole applications and high-volume assembly environments. The Grade 304 stainless steel construction resists corrosion in mildly aggressive service conditions. The primer-free finish allows direct installation without surface preparation of the insert itself.
Designed as an OEM-style threaded insert for use in applications requiring a 3/8-16 UNC screw-locking helical insert with a 1D length-to-diameter ratio and a minimum host bore accommodating an outside diameter of up to 0.472 inches.
Installation is performed using a tangless helical insert installation tool sized for 3/8-16 UNC; do not attempt installation with a standard tanged insert tool. The parent material must be pre-tapped to the correct STI (Screw Thread Insert) tap size before the insert is driven in. Confirm hole depth and thread engagement requirements before installation in blind holes. Always follow the manufacturer installation procedure for torque and coil seating to avoid insert deformation.
