The HELI-COIL A3585-06EN138 is a tangless screw-locking helical coil insert designed to create strong, vibration-resistant threaded holes in parent materials. It carries a 6-32 UNC thread profile and an overall length of 0.138 inches, giving a 1D length-to-diameter ratio suited to shallow-boss applications. Manufactured from 18-8 stainless steel, it resists corrosion in both wet and mildly chemical environments. The tangless design eliminates the need for a tang break-off step during installation, reducing debris risk inside assemblies. Maximum locking torque is 6 inch-pounds, and minimum breakaway torque is 1.00 inch-pound, giving installers a defined torque window for controlled thread locking.
This insert is used wherever a stripped, soft, or thin-material threaded hole must be repaired or reinforced to accept a 6-32 UNC fastener. Typical applications include precision sheet-metal enclosures, electronic equipment housings, HVAC control panels, and light-gauge fabricated assemblies. Maintenance technicians, assembly workers, and field service personnel across electrical, HVAC, and light mechanical trades install this type of insert as a standard thread-repair or thread-reinforcement solution.
Designed as an OEM-style thread-repair and thread-reinforcement insert for parent materials tapped to accept a 6-32 UNC helical coil insert with an outside diameter between 0.178 and 0.193 inches.
Installation requires a HELI-COIL or compatible tangless insert installation tool sized for 6-32 UNC inserts; confirm tool compatibility before beginning work. De-energize and lock out any assembly before inserting into electrical or control enclosures per NFPA 70E safe work practices. The parent hole must be pre-tapped with the correct STI (Screw Thread Insert) tap for 6-32 UNC to achieve proper outside diameter engagement. Do not exceed the maximum locking torque specification when driving the mating fastener, as overtorque can deform the coil and compromise thread integrity.
