The HELI-COIL A1084-3CN030 is a tanged, free running wire thread insert designed to create strong, wear-resistant threads in tapped holes. Manufactured from 304 stainless steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this insert accepts an M3 x 0.5 metric coarse thread and measures 0.1181 inches (3.0 mm) in overall length, representing a 1D length-to-diameter ratio. It is used to repair stripped or damaged threads or to install precision threads in softer base materials. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical technicians reach for wire thread inserts when restoring thread integrity without replacing the parent component.
This insert is suited for light-duty threaded repair and reinforcement applications across industrial, mechanical, and field-service environments. The tanged design is compatible with standard Heli-Coil installation tooling that engages the drive tang during insertion. The 1D length-to-diameter ratio and 3-3/4 free coils make it appropriate for shallow boss depths common in sheet metal enclosures, light castings, and precision assemblies where space is limited. Sold as a single insert with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use with standard Heli-Coil M3 x 0.5 installation tooling and drill-and-tap sets. Compatible with any parent material tapped to accept an M3 x 0.5 Heli-Coil insert, including aluminum, cast iron, and thermoplastic housings.
Installation requires drilling the parent material to the correct oversize drill diameter, tapping with the appropriate Heli-Coil tap, then driving the insert with the matching installation tool. Power down any equipment and secure the workpiece before drilling or tapping. After seating the insert, remove the drive tang using a tang break-off tool where required by the application. Follow applicable mechanical fastener standards and the equipment manufacturer service procedures for thread repair on safety-critical components.
