The HELI-COIL 2087-3 is a hand STI (Screw Thread Insert) tap designed to cut the oversized internal threads required for installing Heli-Coil wire thread inserts. Ground to a D2 thread limit with a 5H class of fit, it produces accurate threads in a range of base materials. The tap features 3 flutes and a plug chamfer for controlled cutting action in through-holes and moderately deep blind holes. It is manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish. The thread profile is M3 x 0.5 Metric Coarse, and the tap has an overall length of approximately 2 inches with a thread length of approximately 0.69 inches. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and field repair specialists use this tap to restore or create threaded bosses before inserting a Heli-Coil insert.
