The HELI-COIL 1084-5CN075S is a free-running wire thread insert designed to create durable, wear-resistant internal threads in tapped holes. Manufactured from 304 stainless steel, this tanged insert installs into a prepared HeliCoil-tapped hole and provides a reliable helical coil thread form that distributes load across multiple thread engagement points. The insert measures 7.5 mm overall length (0.2953 inches) and matches M5 x 0.8 metric coarse thread geometry. With 6-7/8 free coils and a 1-1/2D length-to-diameter ratio, it offers solid thread engagement depth for fastener retention in metal or other base materials.
This insert is suited for maintenance, repair, and manufacturing applications where stripped or damaged M5 threads need restoration, or where a new assembly requires thread reinforcement. Common installation scenarios include threaded repair in aluminum housings, steel brackets, and cast components found in HVAC equipment, pumps, motors, and general mechanical assemblies. The tanged design allows installation with a standard HeliCoil insertion tool; the tang is broken off flush after installation using a tang break-off tool. Sold individually, this insert is appropriate for single-repair jobs or bench stock replenishment.
Designed for use in HeliCoil-compatible M5 x 0.8 metric coarse tapped holes. Requires a matching HeliCoil tap and insertion tool for proper installation.
Installation is performed by a mechanic or technician using a HeliCoil-specific tap to prepare the hole to the correct oversize diameter, followed by driving the insert with the appropriate insertion tool. Always de-energize and lock out equipment before performing thread repair on live machinery. After the insert is seated flush, break off the installation tang using a tang break-off tool and remove the tang fragment from the hole before reassembly. Follow the fastener manufacturer torque specifications for the M5 hardware used with the restored thread.
