The HARVEY TOOL 989808-C8 is a single-end ball end mill designed for material removal in aluminum alloys and other non-ferrous metals. Machined from solid carbide, it features a 1/8-inch cutting diameter, a 3/8-inch length of cut, and a 42-degree variable helix angle. The variable helix geometry reduces harmonic vibration during high-speed roughing passes, improving surface finish and tool life. TiB2 (titanium diboride) PVD coating provides low affinity to aluminum, reducing built-up edge and extending tool life in non-ferrous applications. This end mill is used by CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals running aluminum parts on vertical or horizontal machining centers.
This end mill is suited for roughing operations in aluminum alloys, copper, brass, and other non-ferrous materials. The 1/8-inch shank diameter with a straight-cylindrical profile fits standard collet chucks and ER-style toolholders. The 3-flute configuration balances chip evacuation with rigidity, making it effective for slotting, profiling, and contour milling in small-feature aluminum components. The 3/8-inch reach length supports access to moderately deep pockets without excessive overhang.

Installation and use should be performed by qualified CNC machinists familiar with toolholder runout specifications and feed-and-speed parameters for carbide end mills in non-ferrous materials. Ensure the toolholder is clean and within runout tolerance before seating the shank, as excessive runout will accelerate wear on a small-diameter carbide tool. Confirm spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the 1/8-inch diameter before engaging the cut. Do not use this tool on ferrous materials, as it is optimized specifically for non-ferrous applications.
