The HARVEY TOOL 987184-C3 is a solid carbide helical flute thread mill designed for cutting internal 1/2-13 UNC threads in CNC milling applications. With a 0.4000-inch cutting diameter, a 1.3080-inch length of cut, and four flutes, this tool generates full-form internal threads in a single helical pass. The AlTiN coating improves wear resistance and heat dissipation, extending tool life in ferrous and hard materials. At 3.5000 inches overall length with a 0.5000-inch shank diameter, it mounts directly into standard toolholders. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers working in precision manufacturing, job shop, or maintenance environments.
This thread mill is suited for internal threading operations on CNC machining centers where single-point tapping is impractical or where thread quality and tool life are critical. It produces 1/2-13 UNC internal threads at 13 teeth per inch and is appropriate for use in materials where AlTiN coating provides thermal and abrasion resistance, including alloy steels, stainless steels, and cast iron. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant or mist lubrication should be applied at the cutting zone during operation.
Designed as an OEM-style thread milling tool for CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation; consult machine controller documentation to confirm G-code support for thread milling cycles before use.
Thread mills must be run on CNC machining centers with helical interpolation capability — confirm this with the machine controller before programming. Secure the 0.5000-inch shank in a properly sized collet or endmill holder and verify runout before cutting. Power down the spindle and follow lockout/tagout procedures when loading or changing tools. Program feed rate, RPM, and helical pitch according to the workpiece material and the tool manufacturer's speeds-and-feeds data; do not estimate cutting parameters without reference data.
