The HARVEY TOOL 986193-C3 is a solid carbide Woodruff keyseat cutter designed for milling Woodruff keyseats and slots in shafts, spindles, and similar machined components. It features a 0.25 inch cutting diameter and a 0.093 inch cutting width, with a straight tooth configuration and six flutes for controlled chip evacuation. The cutter carries an AlTiN (Aluminum Titanium Nitride) coating that improves heat resistance and extends tool life in ferrous and hardened workpiece materials. The 1/4 inch shank diameter provides rigid coupling to standard collet chucks and tool holders. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops, toolrooms, and production environments are the primary users of this cutter.
This cutter is suited for keyseat operations on small-diameter shafts in both manual milling and CNC machining center applications. The 2.5 inch overall length provides adequate reach for most standard keyseat depths without sacrificing rigidity. The straight tooth geometry is well matched to climb and conventional milling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous alloys. The AlTiN finish makes this cutter a practical choice in dry or minimal-lubrication cutting environments where heat buildup at the cutting edge is a concern.
Designed as an OEM-style keyseat cutter for use in manual knee mills, vertical machining centers, and CNC milling machines equipped with 1/4 inch collet or end mill holder tooling systems.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before loading or removing the cutter from the tool holder. Confirm the collet or holder is clean and the shank is seated fully before tightening to the manufacturer-specified torque for that holder type. Run speeds and feeds should be determined from the manufacturer cutting data for the specific workpiece material and coating designation.
