The HARVEY TOOL 984570 is a Woodruff keyseat cutter designed for milling keyseat slots in shafts and workpieces that accept Woodruff keys. Built from brazed solid carbide with a bright, uncoated finish, this cutter delivers consistent performance in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It features a 0.75 inch cut diameter, a 0.25 inch cut width, and a straight tooth configuration with 10 teeth. The 3/8 inch shank diameter includes a Weldon flat for secure tool holding, and the overall length is 3.25 inches. Machinists, tool and die makers, and general metalworking shops use this cutter on manual and CNC milling machines to cut precise keyseat profiles.
This cutter is suited for creating Woodruff keyseat slots in shaft work across general machining, maintenance, and repair operations. The straight tooth geometry and brazed solid carbide construction make it appropriate for both production runs and single-piece work where dimensional accuracy is critical. Typical applications include drive shaft keyseating, fixture work, and toolroom operations where a dedicated Woodruff profile cutter is required. The Weldon flat shank is compatible with standard side-lock end mill holders.
Designed as a standard Woodruff keyseat cutter for use in side-lock or collet-style tool holders accepting a 3/8 inch shank diameter. Fits manual knee mills, vertical machining centers, and similar milling equipment configured for arbor or shank-mount keyseat cutters.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Secure the cutter in a side-lock end mill holder using the Weldon flat to prevent axial pullout during cutting. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before loading or removing the cutter. Set appropriate feed rates and spindle speeds based on workpiece material and depth of cut to avoid overloading the brazed carbide joint.
