The HARVEY TOOL 982178 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in metalworking, toolmaking, and general machining applications. With a 5/64 inch (0.0780 inch decimal) mill diameter and a 0.117 inch length of cut, this is a small-diameter tool built for tight-tolerance work in confined areas. The 3-flute geometry balances chip evacuation with tool rigidity at this size range. A 30-degree helix angle promotes smooth cutting action and helps reduce deflection. The bright, uncoated finish makes this tool suitable for a wide range of work materials where a coating is not required. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary users of this end mill.
This end mill fits residential toolroom, job shop, and production machining environments where small-diameter, high-precision cuts are required. The 0.125 inch (1/8 inch) shank diameter is compatible with standard collet systems. With a 2.5 inch overall length and an extended reach of 0.8 inch, this tool can access recessed features and pockets that standard-length end mills cannot reach. It is a single-end, right-hand cut, right-hand flute configuration suited for conventional CNC machining centers and manual mills with appropriate collet chucks.
Designed for use in standard 1/8 inch collet systems on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines that accept right-hand cut, solid carbide end mills in the small-diameter range.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician using an appropriate collet or end mill holder sized to the 0.125 inch shank. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank to the full recommended engagement depth in the collet to minimize runout and prevent pullout during cutting. At small diameters, excessive overhang beyond the stated reach length increases deflection risk and should be avoided.
