The HARVEY TOOL 972308 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in metal, composite, and engineering plastic applications. With a 1/8 inch cutting diameter and 4-flute geometry, this tool delivers clean, accurate profiles in finish and semi-finish passes. The 30-degree helix angle promotes smooth chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces at the workpiece. A bright, uncoated finish maintains sharp edge integrity and suits a wide range of workpiece materials. This end mill is single-end, right-hand cut, and right-hand flute. It is installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers working in job shop, production, and toolroom environments.
This end mill is suited for slotting, profiling, and contouring in applications where a small-diameter, extended-reach tool is required. The 1 inch reach length allows the cutter to access deeper pockets and stepped features without interference from the shank. The 3/8 inch length of cut falls within a standard range of 0.300 to 0.500 inches, covering typical slotting depths for small-scale precision work. Center-cutting capability allows direct plunge entry into the workpiece. It is commonly used in prototype machining, mold work, and tight-tolerance production runs where a 1/8 inch shank toolholder is specified.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills equipped with 1/8 inch diameter collets or end mill holders. Compatible with ER11, ER16, and similarly sized collet systems that accept a 1/8 inch shank diameter.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or collet is de-energized before inserting or removing the end mill. Seat the shank fully into the collet to the recommended grip depth and torque the collet nut to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before commencing cutting operations, as runout in small-diameter carbide tools accelerates wear and risks tool breakage.
