The HARVEY TOOL 950660 is a solid carbide Woodruff keyseat cutter designed for milling keyseat slots in rotating shafts and mating components. It features a 0.625-inch cut diameter and a 0.125-inch cut width, making it suited for producing precise, standardized keyways conforming to ANSI 405 (Old Standard Number 5). With 8 straight teeth and a bright, uncoated carbide body, it delivers clean cuts in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The 5/8-inch shank diameter provides rigid tool holding in standard milling chucks and collets. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals install this cutter in vertical or horizontal milling machines for shaft and hub keyseat operations.
This cutter is well suited for job shops, maintenance machining, and production environments where standardized Woodruff keyseats are required. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. Secondary workpiece materials include non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The straight-tooth configuration provides straightforward cutting action suitable for conventional keyseat milling applications. The neck diameter of 0.203 inches and neck length of 0.312 inches allow access into shallow slot geometries without interference from the shank body.
Designed as an ANSI 405 standard Woodruff keyseat cutter compatible with toolholders accepting a 5/8-inch shank diameter. Suitable for use in vertical and horizontal milling machines with standard collet chucks or end mill holders. No Weldon flat is present on this shank.
This cutter is installed by machinists in milling machine spindles using a collet or end mill holder rated for the 5/8-inch shank diameter. Ensure the machine spindle and workpiece are fully secured and the machine is at a complete stop before mounting or removing the cutter. Use appropriate feeds and speeds for the workpiece material and verify keyseat depth with gauging tools before final cuts. Solid carbide tools are brittle and should not be dropped or subjected to lateral shock loads during handling.
