The HARVEY TOOL 938240 is a solid carbide back chamfer cutter designed for deburring and chamfering the reverse side of drilled or bored holes. With a cutter head diameter of 0.21 inches and a 90-degree included angle, this tool produces a 0.037-inch chamfer width in a single pass. The 5-flute geometry provides efficient chip evacuation and a smooth finish on the backside of the workpiece. At 2.5 inches overall length with a 0.13-inch neck diameter, it reaches into recessed features without interference. The bright uncoated solid carbide construction suits a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Machinists and toolmakers working on precision components specify this tool where access from the face of the part is not possible.
This back chamfer cutter is suited for CNC machining centers and manual mills performing back-chamfering operations on through-holes in workpieces where front-side chamfering is impractical. Typical applications include deburring cross-holes, producing consistent back-bevels on precision bores, and breaking sharp edges on the reverse faces of plates, housings, and manifolds. The 1/4-inch shank fits standard collet systems found on vertical machining centers and high-speed spindles.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines equipped with a 1/4-inch collet or toolholder accepting a 1/4-inch shank back chamfer cutter.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with rotating cutting tool safety and machine tool operation. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before loading or removing the cutter from the collet. Verify runout at the cutter head with a dial indicator after toolsetting, as excessive runout will reduce chamfer width consistency and shorten tool life. Use appropriate cutting speeds and feeds for the workpiece material — do not exceed the toolholder manufacturer's rated RPM for this shank diameter.
