The HARVEY TOOL 891608 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in abrasive and hard materials where standard coated tooling falls short. It carries a CVD diamond coating, which delivers exceptional hardness and wear resistance compared to PVD alternatives. The cutting diameter is 0.125 inches (1/8 inch), the length of cut is 1 inch, and the overall length is 2.5 inches. With four flutes and a 30-degree helix angle, this tool is suited for finish milling passes that demand tight tolerances and a consistent surface finish. Machinists and CNC operators in production shops are the primary users of this tool.
This end mill is used in CNC machining centers for cutting graphite, carbon fiber, fiberglass, ceramics, green carbide, and other highly abrasive non-metallic materials. The CVD diamond coating is specifically chosen for these applications because it resists the rapid edge wear that abrasive composites cause on uncoated or TiN-coated carbide. The single-end, right-hand cut configuration and right-hand flute direction make it compatible with standard spindle setups found in vertical and horizontal machining centers. It is not centercutting, so plunge milling is not the intended entry strategy for this tool.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers with standard 1/8-inch collet or end mill holder setups. Best suited for machining graphite, carbon fiber, fiberglass, ceramics, and other abrasive non-metallic workpiece materials where CVD diamond coating provides a meaningful service life advantage.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Secure the 0.125-inch shank in a precision collet or shrink-fit holder rated for the shank diameter to minimize runout. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before installing or removing the tool. Because this tool is not centercutting, program ramp or helical entry moves rather than direct plunge entries to avoid tool damage at the tip.
