The HARVEY TOOL 849305-C3 is a Woodruff keyseat cutter designed for milling keyseat slots in shafts and bores. It features a 0.5 inch cut diameter and an extremely narrow 0.031 inch cut width, making it suited for precision keyseat work where tight tolerances are critical. The cutter is constructed from brazed solid carbide and carries an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) coating that improves hardness and heat resistance at the cutting edge. With 8 straight teeth and a 1/4 inch shank with Weldon flat, this tool is intended for use in milling machines and machining centers. Machinists and toolroom professionals working in metalworking and precision fabrication are the primary users.
This keyseat cutter is used in applications requiring accurate, narrow slot milling on cylindrical or flat workpieces. Common scenarios include cutting Woodruff keyseats in shafts for mechanical power transmission assemblies. The 3-1/32 inch overall length and 1/4 inch shank diameter make it compatible with standard collets and end mill holders equipped for that shank size. The Weldon flat on the shank provides a positive drive contact with set-screw tool holders, reducing the risk of slippage under load. This tool is appropriate for both production runs and prototype or toolroom work.
Designed for use in standard milling machines and machining centers accepting a 1/4 inch shank diameter with Weldon flat tool holders or collets. Intended for Woodruff keyseat applications in metalworking environments.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists using a compatible collet, end mill holder, or Weldon-flat set-screw holder sized for a 1/4 inch shank. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and power is locked out before mounting or removing the cutter. Verify shank seating depth and set-screw torque according to the tool holder manufacturer guidelines before initiating any cut. Do not exceed the cutter manufacturer recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material and coating type.
