The HARVEY TOOL 73172-C3 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding machining environments. With a cutting diameter of 0.1718 inches and four flutes, it delivers clean, accurate cuts in both ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The AlTiN (Aluminum Titanium Nitride) coating provides heat and wear resistance, extending tool life during high-speed or dry machining operations. A 30-degree helix angle balances chip evacuation with cutting edge stability. This end mill is centercutting, allowing direct plunge entry into workpieces. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops and production environments install and use this tool for profiling, slotting, and finish milling applications.
The 73172-C3 is suited for milling operations requiring a small-diameter, high-performance end mill. With a 5/8-inch length of cut (0.625 inches), a 3/16-inch shank diameter (0.1875 inches), and a 2-inch overall length, it fits standard collet chucks and ER-style toolholders commonly found on vertical machining centers, CNC mills, and manual knee mills. Its right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration make it compatible with conventional spindle rotation, supporting standard climb and conventional milling passes.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide square end mill replacement suitable for CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 3/16-inch shank diameter in standard collet or end mill holder tooling systems.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out before tool changes. Seat the shank fully into the collet or end mill holder to the recommended grip depth and torque the retention fastener per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edges and coating condition before each use, and verify runout with a dial indicator when tolerances are critical. Follow applicable shop safety protocols and machine manufacturer guidelines for spindle speed and feed rate selection.
