The HARVEY TOOL 72004 is a miniature solid carbide square end mill engineered for precision machining at extremely small diameters. Measuring 0.1 mm (0.0040 inches) in cutting diameter with a 0.3 mm (0.012 inches) length of cut, this tool is designed for micro-milling applications where tight tolerances and a clean square shoulder profile are required. The 2-flute geometry and 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation at high spindle speeds. The bright, uncoated carbide finish suits a wide range of non-ferrous and ferrous workpiece materials. CNC machinists and precision tool and die shops are the primary users of this end mill.
This end mill is suited for micro-engraving, detailed 3D contouring, and fine slot milling in applications where standard-diameter tooling cannot reach. The 1/8-inch shank diameter provides compatibility with common collet systems found on CNC machining centers and high-speed spindles. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard. The overall length of 1.5 inches allows for straightforward toolholder setup without extended-reach concerns. Single-end configuration means the tool is replaced rather than reindexed when cutting edges are worn.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and high-speed spindles equipped with 1/8-inch collet systems capable of the high spindle speeds required for micro-diameter end mills.
Installation and tool changes must be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a safe, locked-out state. Micro-diameter carbide end mills are brittle — use a precision collet or shrink-fit holder and avoid side-loading the shank during clamping. Confirm runout is within specification before engaging the workpiece, as excessive runout will break tooling at this diameter. Follow machine tool manufacturer guidelines for spindle speed and feed rate selection appropriate to 0.1 mm tooling.
